August Wilson's Seven Guitars

August Wilson's Seven Guitars

This photo features Jamari giving his lead actress and good friend, Dami Adeyina, some last minute notes before his Opening Night performance of August Wilson’s “Seven Guitars”.

In the Fall semester of Jamari’s senior year as an undergrad at USC, he had the amazing opportunity to make his stage directorial debut with August Wilson’s “Seven Guitars”. As a member of USC’s Black Art Collective, which is a club dedicated to promoting, creating, and celebrating Black art, especially those made from students, Jamari was able to fully immerse himself in a collaborative space that felt completely natural.

Because of this opportunity, this has ignited that spark for Jamari to really consider taking directing more seriously.

With something as complex as August Wilson’s Seven Guitars, Jamari wanted this to be authentic as possible. He saw this as a moment to challenge himself artistically as actor, director, but most importantly, as a team player.

The cast featured: Immanuel Poole (Floyd Barton), Dami Adeyina (Vera), Luke Swanson (Canewell), Rafi Perez (Louise), Jordan Smith (Red Carter), and Lolu Ijidakinro (Hedley).
