JAMARI X. WRIGHT

is a Miami-born actor and performer whom just earned his Bachelor of Arts in Theatre (with an Acting Emphasis) from the University of Southern California's School of Dramatic Arts program, with a Minor in Dance from USC's Kaufman School of Dance. Jamari has been involved in the performing arts since the second grade, which began with him performing in summer productions at his after-school and summer program, OYC Miami. Eventually, in high school, he attended Miami Arts Charter, where he then spent four years perfecting his craft, performing in shows, and competing in the Florida District and State Thespian Competitions. Jamari also spent his Spring semester of his junior year studying abroad at the British American Drama Academy in London. There, he continued to master his craft and also starred as Romeo in the spring production of Romeo & Juliet. Now that Jamari is based in Los Angeles, CA, and has fulfilled his goal of graduating college, he strives to continue to fulfill his dreams and passions of pursuing a career in acting, performing, and eventually directing and filmmaking. In Jamari's senior year, he made his stage directorial debut with USC's Black Art Collective's Production of August Wilson's "Seven Guitars" and was also able to make his mark in his first mainstage production as Billy Sullivan/Husband in Jessica Swale's "Blue Stockings", directed by Susan Dalian. Now as a recent grad, he's stepping out into his professional career, continuously working on his craft and is just overall excited to see what the future holds.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Being able to create and bring stories to life on stage and film has always been a passion of mine. The idea that you can become an inspiration to millions around the world, simply by doing what you love to do. One of my favorite actors ever is Chadwick Boseman, and seeing how important he has become to young Black artists, Black children, and Black families around the world is beyond beautiful. I want to be to others what he is to me, and that is a beacon of possibility and encouragement.
I was told that I would get a calling and all I would have to do is answer it. My craft is something so personal to me that I would love to share with the world. It became the best way I could ever possibly express myself and reflect my own life. Through my many channels of performing, whether that be acting, singing, dancing, and more recently, directing, I want my work to embody who I am as an artist, but most importantly, as a person.
